Dr Johanna Lynch MBBS PhD FRACGP FASPM Grad Cert (Grief and Loss) is a Senior Lecturer with The University of Queensland and President of the Australian Society for Psychological Medicine. She spent the last 15 years of her 25-year GP career caring for adults who are survivors of childhood trauma and neglect. As a clinician and researcher, she has pioneered approaches to the whole person that are threat and healing informed. Her work on building Sense of Safety is applicable across disciplines and actively works against the fragmentation caused by trauma and neglect. As a medical practitioner she seeks to raise awareness of trauma-informed practice as a paradigm shift that tunes into the impact of life story, relationships and meaning on physiology. She consults nationally to the Australian domestic violence and mental health sector, teaches mental health skills to general practitioners and offers individual and group supervision of mental health clinicians. Her doctoral research won a Dean’s award for excellence and she has now authored a peer-reviewed book: A whole person approach to wellbeing: Building Sense of Safety (2021) Routledge: UK available at Amazon and as audiobook.
