Australian Childhood Foundation

Love has the power to prevent and heal abuse.

At Australian Childhood Foundation love is an action, a daily effort to build positive relationships that keep children and young people safe and help them to heal.

We provide counselling to children and carers. We teach adults to understand how they can help children to heal from the trauma of abuse and violence. We stand up for children, and young people’s rights to safety. We act to ensure every child gets the love they need.

How we work:

In all our work, we demonstrate our passion for defend and restore childhood by:

  • Applying evidence from neuroscience to help children heal from the pain of abuse, violence and neglect.
  • Promoting and building stable and secure relationships for all children.
  • Working in partnership with other organisations to have a collective impact on the lives of children and young people impacted by trauma, and their families.
  • Educating and empowering communities to safeguard children.
  • Unwaveringly advocating for the needs of children.

How we started:

Australian Childhood Foundation was started almost 40 years ago in 1986, by a small but passionate group of professionals and community advocates who wanted to fix major problems in child protection.

It was established to give children, whose pain was unacknowledged, a voice to ensure their safety and care became a priority within the community. Today as a national organisation with over 30 community partnerships, the Foundation’s focus has not wavered. Our counsellors, educators and professional advocates work passionately to ensure children hurt by abuse, neglect and family violence are helped to heal.

Refusing to give up on children, we are committed to helping the community to defend childhood and children and ensure they feel loved and safe.
