Professional Bio
Sam Rhook is the Founder and Director of Thrive Outreach Australia, a Melbourne-based outreach service supporting both youth and adult males through one-on-one mentoring, home outreach, and creative and social development. With over 18 years of experience across the fields of creative arts, community services, youth work, hip-hop music, and multimedia, Sam brings a holistic and culturally responsive approach to his practice.
At the core of Sam’s work is a belief in the transformative power of authentic connection, storytelling, and self expression. Through Thrive, he offers individualized mentoring and group workshops that incorporate photography, freestyle sessions, personal narrative, and hip-hop video clip creation – engaging participants in active self-expression and skill-building. In these sessions, young people are supported to explore identity, build confidence, and process life challenges through creative and therapeutic tools.
Thrive Outreach focuses on life and social coaching, trauma-informed support, disability services, health and fitness, anxiety and emotional regulation, drug and alcohol support, and creative development. Each session is tailored to promote social and emotional growth, community engagement, and overall well-being. Sam’s mentoring emphasizes strong relationships and hands-on engagement in areas like photography, Muay Thai (Thai kickboxing) performance, videography, and music production.
Beyond mentoring, Sam is also an accomplished MC and hip-hop artist, performing under the name Rhooka. A longtime advocate of hip-hop culture, he has released original music worldwide and performs live across Melbourne and regional Victoria. Most recently, he won a freestyle MC competition, further cementing his place in the local hip-hop scene.
Sam’s work also spans internationally, having facilitated workshops and mentored youth in California and New York—grounding his practice in global cultural engagement and creative empowerment.
